The old nursing station ceased operations on Wednesday, December 11 at 8 a.m. In service since 1969, with a variety of additions and renovations, the replacement of this facility has been on the municipal and territorial agenda since the late 1980s. A replacement plan was first proposed in 2000, but not developed in full until 2009 .
The new hospital’s history has been fraught with problems, including noisy public debates about its location, name, design and siding. Not to mention having the original contractor default on the project. While it is late opening, most people were happy to attend the opening ceremonies on December 7. It opened for business on Wednesday, December 11 at 8 a.m.
At the opening event, the Premier cut the ribbon and Minister Graham devoted most of his talk to praising Father Judge. The place was packed and it was a nice event, but someone forgot to invite a representative from our town council to say a few few words – an odd omission.
