We’ve been hard at work here at the Klondike Sun over the past month. Our May 18th issue marked a new front page design – the first significant layout change in over seven years. We’ve received widespread positive regarding the changes. If you like our new look , feel free to send in your comments. We’re happy to hear what you’ve got on your mind, good or bad.
It makes sense that a new website for the newspaper would follow a redesign in print. The Klondike Sun has had several websites over the years (if you search on Google, you’ll soon discover they’re still around!). In recent years, past issues of the Sun have been hosted on John Stein’s blog – we’re grateful for his continued assistance as our volunteer webmaster.
The idea for a new website can be traced back to 2010, when the Sun received funding from the territory and the City of Dawson to digitize its archives. Posting past issues on the internet seemed a logical destination for all of these old issues, and a new website to accommodate them became needed. The project is still ongoing – you can find the first three years of the Klondike Sun here, with more years continually being added throughout summer 2011.
Yet this site contains much more than our archives. We’ve included our advertising information, selected news headlines, online subscription purchasing and more. Check back often (or subscribe via RSS) to keep in touch with the news and events of Dawson City. And feel free to contact us if you’d like to add a link to your organization.
